Let your dreams become your reality with GUTS

Do you have the ambition to excel as a talented and ambitious athlete and draw out the very best in yourself? Do you want to accomplish this in a professional environment in the number 1 sports country in the world? Is it your dream to combine (elite)sports with higher education in the US? If so, then join GUTS!

GUTS – Go USA Talent in Sports – guides athletes who have the ambition to improve their level of play in a professional environment while studying for an American diploma. GUTS uses the Triple D Strategy to make the best possible match, in which the needs of the athlete take center stage. GUTS focuses on each athlete’s long-term goals, of which placement in the US forms an important component. Not only will the athlete’s playing level be taken into account, but also their educational aspirations and all financial options or limitations.

GUTS serves dedicated and ambitious athletes that have graduated from secondary or higher education and intend to continue their education in the US whilst competing in elite level sports. Our customized approach, which focuses solely on the needs and aptitudes of each student athlete, enables GUTS to make the ultimate match! With a network of thousands of college coaches across the US, GUTS offers athletes a unique opportunity to combine sport and education at their desired level.

GUTS acts as a reliable hub throughout, supporting all procedures and contracts the athlete must undertake. The athlete is given the opportunity to take the US college route and gain a recognized diploma. In addition to sports, the athlete will also continue to cultivate themselves at an academic and personal level.

The entire process should be initiated in a timely manner in order to find a suitable match that meets the needs and talents of each athlete. Optimal preparation and placement is a long and intensive process: admissions tests, preparing a sports profile, providing an introduction to and communicating with American coaches, writing a personal essay and providing letters of recommendation are only a handful of the steps required for a successful placement. Ideally GUTS would like to set aside two years to prepare for the athlete’s departure to the US. This increases the probability of a perfect match and also ensures that the preparation takes place in an orderly fashion. However, GUTS is also in a position to place athletes last minute. Please contact us about the possibilities!

Various avenues of placement are possible, depending upon the athlete’s academic and athletic background. Age is not an issue. Our guiding principal is the athlete’s past education and the year in which they were awarded a diploma in the Netherlands:

HBO/WO >> Two options:

  1. Transfer to four-year college (bachelor’s degree) -> transfer to university (master’s degree)
  2. Start at university (master’s degree)

HAVO/VWO/MBO4  >> Three options:

  1. Transfer to high school (high school diploma or post-graduate certificate) -> junior college (associate’s degree) -> transfer to four-year college (bachelor’s degree) ->transfer to university (master’s degree)
  2. Start at junior college (associate’s degree) -> transfer to four-year college (bachelor’s degree) ->transfer to university (master’s degree)
  3. Start at four-year college (bachelor’s degree) ->transfer to university (master’s degree)

VMBO  >>Three options:

  1. Transfer to high school (high school diploma) ->junior college (associate’s degree) -> transfer to four-year college (bachelor’s degree) -> transfer to university (master’s degree)
  2. Start at junior college (associate’s degree) -> transfer to four-year college (bachelor’s degree) ->transfer to university (master’s degree)

Once an athlete is placed in the US, it is also possible for GUTS to continue to monitor their progress and welfare. Contact will be maintained with the athlete’s coach and/or study adviser, as well as with those at home. The Triple D strategy can be adapted to the changing needs and development of the athlete.

Together with the athlete, GUTS makes every effort to line up various funding options to help cover educational costs in the US. Some high schools or colleges can offer financial compensation that can cover up to 100% of the costs.

In addition to the standard GUTS plan, individual costs may vary depending upon the specific needs of the athlete. For example, extra costs might be incurred to help the athlete develop at a more a professional competitive level. The athlete has the opportunity to choose the module that suits them best (physical, sport specific, performance lifestyle, etc.) and which will enable them to take the necessary steps to make the most of their abilities and reach the very top.
